PROPOSED GEP YEARLY BUDGET – Includes holistic training & racing concept, professional services and travel

  • $18,770.00 = the yearly cost to manage Team GEP with 3 athletes and 2 coaches/support crew (includes travel and holistic training protocols, such as recovery massage) – see below for cost breakdown and note that many services are provided pro-bono or out of pocket by the athletes
  • Sport Physiology testing
    • Cost: pro-bono (Western High Altitude Performance Lab)
    • Administered by Scott Drum, Ph.D., WSC ESS faculty, Director GEP

  • Physical Therapy
    • Cost: pro-bono (Physiotherapy Associates, Gunnison)
    • Administered by Tim Poppe, MPT, Director GEP

  • Sport Psychology
    • Cost: pro-bono (Western Exercise & Sport Science Program)
    • Administered by Ashwin Patel, Ph.D., WSC ESS faculty

  • Sport Dietician
    • Cost: on a case-by-case basis
    • Some of out of pocket by athletes
    • Kelly Jennings, RD, Owner of Apex Nutrition in the Gunnison Valley

  • Athlete and Coach/Support Crew Racing and Training Gear
    • Cost: anticipate sponsorships (shoes, racing jerseys, pull-over, rain jacket/pants, hats/gloves, etc.)
    • Some out of pocket by athletes and coaches/support crews
    • Specialized gear from various companies will be highly visible at all races, during summer training camps, and especially during every day training
    • Company logos will be placed on racing uniforms, warm-ups, etc.

  • Massage Therapy
    • Cost:
      • $20.00/hour x 1 massage per week x 52-wks = $1,040 per athlete x 3 athletes = $3,120 per year total
      • Pro-bono the week after placing in the “top 3” overall of an event
      • All other massage (beyond 1 x per week) is out of pocket
    • Administered by Mike McCarthy, Certified Massage Therapist, WSC ESS student

  • Strength Training Facility
    • Cost: pro-bono
    • Provided by Escalante Fitness Center at Western State College of Colorado
    • Escalante Fitness Center Manger, Chris Martinez

  • Travel Expenses Per Year – air and by road/car (for 3 athletes and 2 coaches/support crew)
    • Cost:
      • Air Travel
        • 2 races per year per athlete (3) and coaches/support crew (2)
        • Airfare x $450.00 per ticket x 2 flights per year x 5 travelers (3 athletes and 2 coaches/support crew) = $4,500.00 per year total
        • Hotel x $85.00 per night x 2 nights per trip x 2 trips x 5 travelers = $1,700.00 per year total
        • Food x $50.00 per day x 2 days per trip x 2 trips x 5 travelers = $1,000.00 per year total
  • $7,200.00 = Air Travel Grand Total Per Year
      • Road/Car Travel
        • 10 races per year per athlete (3) and coaches/support crew (2)
        • Estimated 200 miles of driving round trip x 10 races = 2000 miles x .45 cents per mile (wear and tear & to offset some gas) = $900.00 per year total
        • Hotel x $85.00 per night x 3 hotel rooms for 5 travelers (1 night only) x 10 races = $2550.00 per year total
        • Food x $50.00 per day x 2 days per trip x 5 travelers x 10 races = $5000.00 per year total
  • $8,450.00 = Road/Car Travel Grand Total Per Year

  • $15,650.00 = Grand Total for Team GEP Yearly Travel Expenses (by air and car to 12 races total per 3 athletes and 2 coaches/support crew)

  • Race entry fees covered out of pocket by individual athletes and coaches/support crew

  • Western State College of Colorado High Altitude Performance Lab Personnel
    • Perform all sport physiology testing (pro-bono) and lab houses physical therapy (pro-bono), massage therapy ($20.00 per hour) and sport psychology (pro-bono) sessions
