Background
Western State College's ITC committee meeting on 11-20-2007, discussed the issues surrounding better management of the college's digital photo resources.
Requirements
- Support archive of multiple electronic formats including graphics (JPG, GIF), productivity suites (DOC,PPT), text (HTML,XML), and numeric data sets.
- Support obsolete formats, current formats, and process for adding future formats
- Allows for multiple work-flows (faculty, student, staff)
- Support for both ad-hoc and formalized categorization schemes
- Open and protected methods for accessing resources; i.e. access restricted for copyright or sensitive resources
- Easy to harvest meta-data
- Harvest WSC website for archival
- Authenticate users using WSC ActiveDirectory and LDAP
Time-line
- February and March 2008 - DSpace installed on pilot project server. Implementation begins on Archivist work-flow, Faculty work-flow, Webmaster use work-flow, and Default access. Initial Western State College web design completed, approved, and implemented.
- April 2008 - Archivist and Faculty work-flows completed. Default access completed. Sample electronic resources archived in IR. Prepare requirements and budget for full Western State College Institutional Repository.
- May 2008 - Begin implementation for Student and Administration work-flows. Prepare and Present Digital Poster session for Colorado Academic Summit in Denver. Finish paper on DSpace and Heritrix.
