Second Life is an virtual 3-D service that replicates a large number of “real-world” experience online in an environment similar to popular 3-D video games. Users, called avatars in Second Life, can customize their virtual persona through modifying its appearance, clothing, style, and even species! Avatars in Second Life purchase virtual currency called Linden Dollars for US dollars. Linden dollars can be spent on a wide range of different virtual products and services. Second Life has virtual shops, nightclubs, and museums to explore. Users can also rent or purchase land and build virtual houses and shops.
To access Second Life you will need to first download a client, create your avatar, and have a high-speed Internet connection.
Second Life Assignment
- Download the client from http://www.secondlife.com/join..
- Follow downloading and installing instructions (if installing on a Western State College computer, you will need administrative access or have computer services download and install)
- Log-on and explore the Second Life tutorial.
- Send a postcard to Jeremy to receive credit for this course
