Patrick, Jeremy, Brandon and Cheryl were present. The group reviewed the cost estimates submitted by The Sign Guys and Gal, a local sign business. The group prioritized the proposed signs, in order of importance, #1 being the most important:
- A 48” x 16” plastic, 2-sided hanging sign on the first floor that reads on both sides: Restrooms, Computer Lab, Government Docs, West Wing, Reading Room, and Writing Center. This sign would be sage green in color, in keeping with the campus color scheme.
- A 32” x 16” plastic sign for the wall just inside the west wing to read: Public computers, Journal stacks, newspapers, copier, michrofiche/film, staff office.
- A Pedestal-style sign with maps of the three floors, to be located inside the main entrance near the current message board.
- The same pedestal-style sign with maps of the three floors, to be located inside the first floor entrance.
- A sign located before the bend in the hallway near the Writing Center, pointing the way to Periodicals.
- A series of single-sided hanging signs that will read:
Circulation and Reserves, Information, Copier/Change, Movies & Music, Reference, Government Documents, Books on Hold. If the budget permits, the group recommends including hanging signs that read: Book Exchange, Maps & Atlases, Copier (for west wing), Old Journal Stacks, and a restroom sign in the west wing. - A directory-style letterboard sign with changeable letters to be located on the wall just inside the main entrance. The sign would list what features live on each of the three floors. The prices quoted by the Sign Guys and Gal for the letterboards is more expensive than what we can obtain through library supply houses (Demco, Highsmith, Brodart), so we would order through one of the library suppliers.
- Better, possibly angled, call number signs on the end of each book shelf in the stacks. These would be obtained through one of the library supply houses.
- New hanging signs to replace the current red signs with white lettering in the stacks.
The group decided to present our recommendations to the rest of the library employees at our next staff meeting.
Brandon will find out more information about what kind of material the map signs will be made from, whether the sign will be in color or black and white, and how easy it will be to revise the maps.
