Rather than present this as a homework, this will be a step by step walkthrough. The word documents that are needed to support this are here:
Document Setup
- create a new newsletter using "Photoscope" at the template
- Go into the master page and make room at the top for a logo
- Insert Design Gallery Object -> Logo -> Crossed Corner
- Change the text to Western State College of Colorado. Make the text big enough to fill the available area and use a bold font. You can ungroup to move / resize this object - regroup when done.
- Change the picture at the left to "w.gif". Resize to fill the area.
- Add a border to this picture
- Size the logo and place it at the top of the page above the blue box denoting page content
- Add a left to right gradient fill to the page background - fill from "Accent 4" on the left to white on the right. The background adjustment is under "format".
- Close the master view
Page 1
- Make the newsletter title "Top of the World"
- Change the logo at the top of the page to say "Western State College"
- Swap in the western logo - note that it will be retinted to the theme colors. Enlarge this as shown.
- Add an issue and a date
- Place the "SGA Plans for the Move" story in the first story. Enter the story title and paste the story from MS word into the text area.
- Change the style of the author name to "Heading 4"
- Change the style of the date to "tagline"
- Add "Continued on" to the stories
- Add "You Robot" as the second story - format author and date as above
- Fill in the upper sidebar as follows:
- CRESTED BUTTE OPENS
- FINALS JUST 2 WEEKS AWAY!
- CROSS COUNTRY TEAM GOES TO NATIONALS
- BASKETBALL TEAM BEATS COLORADO COLLEGE
- Resize to fit the content
- Fill in the "In this issue" with other stories
- Gunny Speaks: 2
- Western Coach in Sports Illustrated Sports Illustrated: 3
- Dupont Named Colorado Wrestler of the Year: 4
- Place a calendar for December 2008 with Finals Week highlighted on the right above "In This Issue". You'll need to resize the text to make this fit.
Page 2
- Remove one of the empty stories
- Continue the student union story - place "Continued from" in the textbox
- Resize the columns to exactly fit the You Robot length.
- Add "Gunny Speaks" - fiddle with the text size / box size to make this fit onto the page.
- Place the gunnison rising picture on the left and add the appropriately sized caption.
- Make sure the picture is big enough
- Place the quote in the quote box
- Add the captioned picture of the bowling alley at the left. Crop the left side a bit.

- Continue the Digital Religon story into the top area. Delete the third story area - resize the columns so that they all line up evenly.
- Add the automatic "continued from page 1" to the story (in format textbox)
- Add the sports illustrated story at the bottom.
- Add the "Double Square" accessory Bar between stories.
- Place the picture of the coach Michel in the sidebar. Use a "squares" picture caption from the design gallery. Add a border to this box.
- Add the quote as from the story as shown.
- Fill the middle of the right margin with the nested boxes accent.
Page 4
- Change this to a 1 column style
- Remove unneeded fields and add the "Live. Learn. Here." at the top.
- Copy the "Fast Facts" from http://western.edu/admissions/facts.html (ending with the majors/minors) into a box on this page. Style the table as shown.
- Insert a captioned picture as shown with the new union. Crop the union picture.
- Insert the ad for the Costa Rica trip. Take out unneeded fields.
- Align the ad and the picture of the union.
- Add a quote box on the left containing the lead sentence at http://western.edu/admissions/
- Add the story "Dupont named wrestler of the year" in the article area
- Place a barbell above the article
- Place a box on the left to describe 120 - this uses Gallery -> Sidebar -> Art. The content is:
