Online Advising System

Project: Online Advising

Overview

This project will help students and advisors with their advising sessions. Students and advisors will be able to look at and edit an overall view of student information, including majors, minors, catalog used, expected graduation date, and transcript information. More specific pages will let the student and advisor see the student's progress through his degree(s), and plan academic schedules into the future in order to move the student toward graduation more easily. The Online Advising System will also provide the first step of graduation by electronically filling out the graduation checklist.


Documentation

There are currently five working sections of the project. The sections are a log in, info/main, transcript upload, transcript view, checklist view.

Log in The log in system allows a user to get authorized to view their information. When a user logs in it will check their credentials with the database and if they are authorized to view a user in the database it will transfer them to the basic info screen. Currently if a new user wants to be able to use this program they have to be manually added to the database. Hopefully this will change so that Professors who will have higher privileges will be able to add students.

Basic Info This is the main page where students can see their overall progress here at Western. This page shows limited about of the students personal information such as his name and student number.
