A Life Skoolz User Story

There Are Two Sides To Every Story

When arriving upon the Life Skoolz's webpage, one is greeted by the Life Skoolz logo and presented three choices. The user decides between logging in as an Educator, a Student, or visiting the About page. When visiting the About page the user will be given a more in depth description of Life Skoolz(including their mission statement, code of conduct, and plans for the future), links to partnership services/companies, Life Skoolz contact information, as well as a form that shall allow interested persons to enter their e-mail address to join the Life Skoolz mailing list. Once back at the homepage the user procedes to sign into Life Skoolz using their respective login. Clicking on either Educator or Student will drop down the correct login form or a link to create a new account if the user has not already done so. If the new account option is chosen the user will be lead through a guided account creation process, otherwise they will login to the Educator or Student sections where the user gets one of two very different, but equally enriching experiences.

The Student's Side Of The Story

In the case of a new student and account creation, there will be a simple form to fill out that will gather the information required by Life Skoolz. Once the new student has created their account, they will be automatically redirected to the next step, setting up their student profile. The student profile is not only how the student will be identified and seen by others, but also their personalized gateway for interacting with Life Skoolz. Here the student will be able to access their "Homeroom", forums, chatrooms, see notes they've written and personal calendar of events, connect with other students, and edit their own profile. In addition, there will be an option for students to access forums and other features without being attached to a homeroom.

Recess is where students can go to interact, communicate, and share with one another regarding life skills. This is also where they can go to relax and have fun. It will eventually be home to forums, chatrooms, and even games.

The Homeroom is where students can view their teacher's homeroom page. Students will have their own access to the homeroom page where specific functions of the educator's homeroom will be available just for the students. They will be able to access their teacher's blog, assignments, and post comments on their teacher's wall from here.

The Educator's Point Of View

Educators will have a fundamentally similar, but still unique experience with Life Skoolz. Creating a new account when needed also invovles an application form, but the teacher will have a choice of subscription methods to choose from. Gathering payment information will be part of the educator account creation. At this point, where the students were prompted to setup their student profile, the next step for a teacher is to manage their homeroom.

The homeroom for the educator is what they will be using instead of a teacher profile, and this is the very homeroom that the students will view and particerpate with. Additional links will connect the teacher to the bookstore, the teacher's lounge, and a place to edit their homeroom. Editting the homeroom will allow teachers to post new assignments and blogs, edit and manage other information that will be displayed for the students, and the ability to grant students access to the homeroom.

Going to the teacher's lounge is the adult equivalent to recess for the students. Here there will be teacher forums, chats, and a shared collection of lesson plans.

The Bookstore will be the home to all things e-commerce on the Life Skoolz website.

This is the first page a user will arrive at when he or she goes to the Life Skoolz website. The user clicks on Educator or Student and they are prompted to log in or sign up. If logging in as a student, the user will be taken to their student profile. Here is what that might look like:

The words in yellow would all be links to something. The Gunnison Elementary link would take the user to a page that would list links to the profiles of other students at that school with an account. The student has an area where they can display notes that they've written, there is a check box to make a note hidden, hiding the note makes it look visibly different to the student, but will not show the note at all to other students viewing the profile. Below the notes is a calendar which allows a student to create and manage events or homework. Like the notes, the student will have the option of making the events hidden from other students. Adding, editing, and viewing the event in detail would take place on a seperate page.

This is what an educator would see after logging in. The number of students next to a link to a page list all of the students and allow for adding and removing students from a homeroom. The Educator's profile page also lists several of the most recent lessons and a link to list all of the lessons. The section below that could be a free space that allows the educator to put whatever content they want in inside, such as an inspirational quote, an assignment, or an open question to students. There is also a section where students can write a message that will be displayed on the wall, the educator responsible for that homeroom would have the ability to delete and edit posts. Student's viewing this page would not see those controls.
