Computer Camp 2009
Computer Camp 2009
It might take a while to finish posting pictures from Friday and Saturday.
I'll be making a CD of the pictures + software to send out next month.
Here's our tenative schedule: Panda Class/Summer 2009/Schedule
It's all fairly straightforward once you have the installers for the various pieces of software:
Panda3d: For the camp, we used the previous version(1.5.4, because of some unknown issues), but you can try the newest version first(1.6.2): http://www.panda3d.org/download.php (click on installer for windows) Netbeans: we used a special stripped down version of Netbeans(normally used for Java with extensions for various languages) that supported python exclusively to minimize confusion: http://www.netbeans.org/features/python/ (click on the download button next to "download and test the early access 2 release now." I think this is the one we used.) FRP library: Dr. Peterson's library is contained in the three zip files above (download them and unzip them to your C: drive for the simplest installation)
Once you've got all of that, it's just a matter of opening up netbeans and making sure that the settings are configured for the correct python and pythonpath: open/create a project and rightclick on it to select the properties. Under the categories on the left side, there should be python. On the right, Python Platform should appear. select new on the left side and navigate to C:\Panda3D-1.6.2\python\ppython.exe or C:\Panda3D-1.5.4\python\ppython.exe depending on which installation you have. Then select the python path on the right side and click add. navigate to C:\pandaLib\src and select open.
Whew. Once all that is done, you should be able to run the following program and a panda should appear:
from Panda import * panda() start()
If you have followed the directions correctly, but it won't run, it might be a matter of having the wrong Panda3D version installed(we don't know why the newest version doesn't always work), so try uninstalling the bad one and installing the other one.
If it still isn't working. let me know and I'll see if I can help you work through it.
