Colorado Outdoor Recreation Expedition
CORE is a semester-long course designed to introduce students to the field of outdoor education. It is a very unique outdoor program and it is focused on developing outdoor leadership skills in its participants.
Whether it be backpacking in the beautiful San Juan mountians or listening to an interpretive talk, CORE gives students the ability to explore the many different career options in the Recreation field. It exposes students to things such as; outdoor mountian guiding, climbing, ropes course facilitation, the National Parks system, primitive technology, Outward Bound and NOLS, group management, and many more essential skills needed for the outdoor enthusiast or simply a person seeking amazing life-changing experiences.
CORE is a new program at Western State College, but has successfully completed two years, in both fall 2005 and the fall of 2006, and plans to complete a third year in Patagonia in the fall of 2007.
