Itinerary

To start our wonderful spring break off we travel 350 miles from Gunnison, Colorado to Halls Crossing, Utah where we would begin our epic water adventure. On Sunday we spent the morning rigging boats, paddling techniques, wet exit procedure, boat travel and finally getting on the water after we had some lunch. Once we were on the water to paddled to Lost Eden Canyon and did some exploring around and then decided to paddle to our camp site for the night which was across the lake. Getting from Lost Eden Canyon to our camping spot was interesting, we delt with some choppy water and really bad wind. After braving the bad weather we made it to our camping spot where we set up for the night. The next day we were suppose to have a big travel day and move about eight miles south. However we decided to stay in our camp spot due to 30+ mph winds with 45 mph gusts. This bad wind was very interesting to deal with because we had camped in a nice sandy area... After a full day of dealing with the wind the next day was looking up and to our advantage, we decided to paddle about twelve miles to the campsite that we were suppose to be at for the day so that our plans would not be spoiled for our full day of canyon exploring; which is what we did the very next day. After a long day of paddling we decided to head back to our campsite for some personal time and relaxation. The next day we paddled to our last camp site on the water which was about ten miles from the previous night. The next morning we packed up our boats and decided to head for the take out. As we got closer to the take out (the same place we put in at) the water and winds began to become worse again. We were almost to the take out when we turned a corner and were confronted by about three foot water that was coming at us from all directions because it was bouncing off of the canyon walls. After battling our way through the rather large water, we made it safely with no swimers back to the take out. We spent about an hour then clean and unpacking our boats; then we loaded up the van and the jeep with all of our stuff and made our way for Moab, Utah. In Moab we stopped and had a wonderful diner at the Moab Brewery, then spent the night sleeping by the Colorado River. The next morning we woke up and drove back to Gunnison where we unpacked the vehicles, cleaned and sorted all the gear that we used and then we head home for a nice shower and some diner.
