WSC Adventure Race Team
From WP Wiki
Info
The WSC Adventure Race team was started several years ago by multi-sport athletes at Western. As many people would assume, WSC has many non-traditional, yet avid athletes who spend their time running, paddling, climbing and mountain biking. Adventure racing is a great blend of all these skills with the addition of navigation and orienteering. You can find more information about adventure racing at Adventure Xstream
News
The Moab Adventure Race is fast approaching. Members, please email me with a few times during the week, which we could have a possible meeting. We have just made an order for our WSC athletic socks, scroll further down the page for more information.
Contact
The team captains are Kate Chapman and Garrett Brady and can be contacted at:
- trichappo@comcast.net
- garrett.brady@western.edu
Kate and Garrett are both involved with the WSC Cycling Team and both came home with National Championship titles in the fall of 2006 and contributed to Western State College's first ever Division II MTB Collegiate Team National Championship.
Prospective Members
Adventure racing can seem like an overwhelming endevor but it really is not. In the three years I have been a part of this club I have not met one person who came out and raced and did not enjoy themselves. New to the Adventure Xstream Series are the spirt races which are great for new members who are unsure about doing a 12 Hour Race. This is a great way to meet people who are into the same disiplines as you and can help you explore new disiplines.

Blog
Hey everyone,
Just a note to let you all know what's going on with the WSC Adventure Race Club. The school year got off to a great start with the Adventure Xtream Point Series climax near Vail, CO September 9th. We were well represented with two teams: a four person co-ed in the sprint race and a two person co-ed for the 12 hour. Respectively, these teams took third and first in their division. Also making the trip were three volunteers who were rewarded for their efforts by a $100 gift voucher for any of the next season's races. Lastly, we were fortunate to have two great support crew members, Thathcher and Zane, who dressed up, laid out gear, encouraged and kept everyone happy. Thanks guys. Both teams were recently rewarded for their efforts by a $100 voucher for the 4 person and 2, $75 vouchers for Kate and Garrett.
Check out mid September's Top paper or Adventure Extreme for more info. So, now what do we do since the race season is over? Well, it's kinda up to you guys. Garrett and i raced for the Western mountain bike club almost every weekend. Ealier this month we headed down to Angel Fire, NM for collegiate nationals. Garrett and i were crowned national champs in short track and four cross respectively. Best of all, Western ended up Div. 2 champions!
Check out some pics out the new page we are creating. Feel free to add some pictures.
Come spring there will be racing on the road team so stay in tune for that info.
This winter i will be racing on the Nordic ski team. In between, i hope to get together with everyone to do a long training day or race with different elements at least once a month. In addition, it would be great to have a least one training session a week whether it's skiing, snowshoeing, running, spinning, swimming, etc. Basically, when it comes to adventure racing, whatever you can do aerobically that requires your brain and muscles can help you in the long run. Think of your activities as money in the bank for later. So, with that said, what are some other things people like to do? Let's get together and work hard this winter so come spring time and the first race in Moab we are not struggling to finish but striving to place and have fun!
Please feel to contact Garrett or I to ask any questions, make suggestions, look for training partners, etc. Also, use this WIKI site to add pics, blogs, and any other pertinat info. The best way to learn how to do things is to try and to also see how other people have made edits. Good Luck! In addition, i have created a group on the WOL site. All you have to do to join is to go in there under athletic groups and become a member.
We really feel like we live in a mulit-sport mecca and want to help foster the growth of this amazingly unique adventure.

Ps. Please pass this on or tell anyone else who may be interested.
